Office 365 error when trying to open the OBM backup software 'Invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8 sequence'


When trying to open the backup software (OBM) you see the error Invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8 sequence


We believe this can be caused by a local license or config error.


  1. Close our software and kill the process in the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Delete c:\users\username\ .obm
  3. Open the software again.
    This time you will be asked to login again and re-enter your encryption passwords.
