Cause
A lot of Synology NAS devices ship with 2GB of RAM. This is enough for normal usage; however, our software will consume Java heap RAM.
During initial and large backups, the Java heap RAM can’t grow to the required size, and the backup can crash. This in turn, causes the index files to become corrupted.
After the initial and large backups have been completed, normal backup processes are unlikely to have an adverse effect on the NAS’ resources.
Fix
This is an easy issue to fix in the same way as if it were a Windows PC or server.
The following tech shows how to fix the issue. You can only complete steps 1-4 on a NAS device.
