The writer failed due to an error

We saw this today on exchange 2013
[com.ahsay.afc.microsoft.MSExchangeExpt] The writer failed due to an error that would likely not occur if the entire backup, restore, or shadow copy creation process was restarted. (VSS_E_WRITERERROR_RETRYABLE)
We tested with (vssadmin list writers) and it looks OK.
Any ideas please guys?

Hi

To resolve this:

  1. Run this command in a new CMD window vssadmin list writers. You will likely see the Exchange writer has failed.
  2. Update the Server and Exchange service packs from Microsoft, and reboot the server to clear the VSS error.
  3. If the problem persists, check the Windows event logs (application and system) for any VSS or disk errors.
